I'm playing a v. Human fighter for an upcoming campaign starting at level 1 and am torn on my build options. I want to go (long)sword and board with dueling fighting style and sentinel (shield master later on) but I'm not sure how effective this is.

Oct 31, 2020 · First, choose the Variant Human race. This will give you a feat, and you should choose the Shield Master feat if you are going protection shield fighter, or Tavern Brawler if you want to be an offense shield fighter (proficiency in improvised weapons, which your shield is) which are both key features of this build.

Dec 8, 2020 · Slasher is a new feat that lets you slow down creatures that you hit with a slashing weapon, give them disadvantage if you crit, and improve your str or dex by 1. Tough gets you more HP which is never a bad thing. If you meet the prerequisites Defensive Duelist is solid.

Sep 1, 2017 · You can use the "Great Weapon Fighting" fighting style to reroll 1s or 2s with the two-handed weapon, which is roughly equivalent — but nowhere as good as the straight +2 bonus for Dualing with a one-handed weapon (and note that you can use this with a shield).

Sep 23, 2022 · There has been a lot of discussion how in 5e the shield and weapon using fighter is a bit... underwhelming... when compared to other options. This is mainly due to limited feat support: I'm doing 1d8+7 with my sword and dueling fighting style fighter, while the PAM/GWM is doing massive damage.

Dec 20, 2024 · Human Trickster pure fighter can be a viable shield bash build. you have enough bonus feats as a fighter to make it work. Shield focus, Shield Master, two weapon fighting 1-3, shield bash, bashing finish, tripping bash, improved crit 1-4.

Jan 9, 2024 · Toss a +1 into STR and a +2 into CON from your racial scores, and you're good to go. Alternatively, you can play a DEX-based fighter using a rapier or similar finesse weapon.
