Lloyds Banking Group will shut 136 branches in the United Kingdom to match customers' transition to digital banking but will not cut jobs, the lender said on Wednesday.

The banking giant behind Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland has revealed plans to shut 136 branches by next March. Lloyds Banking Group has said the cuts are driven by customers shifting towards online banking services. As a result, the company will shut 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax and 14 Bank of Scotland sites.

Lloyds blamed the decision to shut the branches on customers shifting away from banking in person to using mobile services. Transactions across these branches fell by an average of 48% over the past five years as customers used its app more for payments, Lloyds said.
