Ford Motor is recalling 295,449 diesel-engine trucks because a defective fuel pump could cause a loss of power, raising the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday.

Ford (NYSE: F) sold 765,649 F-Series pickups last year, up 2%. This made it the best-selling truck in America for 48 years. (Ford launched it in 1948.) It is also 37% of Ford’s sales for 2024, which shows how dependent Ford is on one gas-powered model line.

Ford (F) posted a strong fourth quarter US report, one that capped off a strong year for the Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker. Ford said US sales in Q4 rose 8.8% versus a year ago, powered by F-Series sales that jumped 21.

While the final numbers are pending, Ford sold 550,835 F-Series trucks through the first nine months of the year. That put them 138,439 units ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado, but GM will likely get the last laugh.

Ford is claiming the crown of top-selling truck for 2024. It is a huge badge of honor to have the top selling vehicles in the hotly-contested race.
