Former Tennessee Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn has been named Deputy Secretary of Education by President Donald Trump.

Schwinn would work with WWE founder Linda McMahon, Trump’s pick to head the department, if both are confirmed.

The local charter school founder held brief positions at St. Hope Public Schools, Sacramento County Board of Education and Sacramento City Unified School District.

But if confirmed as deputy secretary, she could find herself in culture war conflicts she’s previously sidestepped.
