CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Thousands of residents were forced to flee a fast-moving wildfire, called the Mountain Fire, in Ventura County that has already damaged multiple homes. Chris Cristi in AIR7 estimated that at least 40-50 homes have burned from what he could see.
Mountain Fire burns 14,000 acres, destroys homes as flames whip through Somis, Camarillo
A wildfire started in the Somis area on Wednesday morning and tore through 22 square miles by the evening, destroying dozens of homes, sending residents to the hospital and forcing evacuations in Ventura, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Fillmore and points in between.

The extreme wind conditions grounded fixed-wing aircraft because of "very dangerous" conditions caused by gusts topping 61 mph, said weather service meteorologist Bryan Lewis. He said pilots could face turbulence that could bring a plane down, as well limited visibility from the massive smoke plume.
