From the rim of the caldera in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park you can see the massive eruption of Kīlauea, one of two volcanoes in the park. Glowing red lava shoots high into the air before falling back to the ground. Large white clouds of smoke float upwards, almost like a forest fire. Eruptions are common here.

What had been low-level lava flows since Thursday morning became more vigorous fountaining Friday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaii Volcano Observatory.

A swarm of earthquakes shook Hawaii's Big Island late Sunday evening. While these earthquakes are not impacting Kilauea, the volcano has been erupting since last week.
