The New York Islanders have had a frustratingly inconsistent season. Currently 15th in the Eastern Conference and seven points outside of a playoff spot, it’s more than fair to say this season has not gone to plan for New York.

Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock and goaltender Marcus Högberg have both landed on injured reserve after leaving Saturday’s overtime win over the Hurricanes with upper-body injuries, the team announced.

Pelech provided an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Hurricanes. Pelech has a helper in four straight games, and he's gone plus-6 in that span as well. The 30-year-old could be in line for even more tough defensive minutes if Ryan Pulock (upper body) misses time after leaving Saturday's game on the first shift.

A year ago, it was a Nov. 24 match in Ottawa that immutably changed the season for the Islanders, when Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho both got hurt, trimming the Isles down to four defenseman for an eventual win over the Senators.

New York Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock left in the first period of action versus the Carolina Hurricanes after falling behind the net. Later in the third period, goaltender Marcus Högberg exited the game and was replaced by Ilya Sorokin.

The Islanders have won eight straight Saturday games (six at home and two on the road). The Isles are 14-13-3 in their last 30 games (8-0-0 on Saturday; 6-13-3 on other days). Ten of their last fourteen wins have come on Saturday or Sunday.
