Junior doctors in Kolkata have ended their 41-day strike and will resume emergency services from Saturday while keeping OPD services suspended. They secured some demands like resignations of key officials but still seek more safety measures.

The junior doctors called off their protest after the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government accepted most of the demands of the medics.

While the 41-day-long agitation began after August 9, when a junior doctor was raped and murdered in the premises of Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, the doctors began a sit-in protest outside Swasthya Bhawan on September 10.
