The UC Hyperloop pod is among 30 picked to head to a test track at SpaceX headquarters in early 2017. Team captain Shiyani told the university he's proud of their design.

The teams were tasked with developing a prototype pod to travel down a 1.2-kilometer (0.75-mile) tube, as part of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s vision for a Hyperloop high-speed transport system.

The POD project is part of DARPA’s Phoenix program, a 4-year-old effort that is branched out from its original focus on satellite salvage and servicing operations.
