Former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason has displayed toughness and grit over the past several years as he continues to fight ALS. Unfortunately, the 47-year-old suffered a medical event last Wednesday that sent him to the hospital.

Former New Orleans Saints safety and ALS activist Steve Gleason shared his enjoyment over social media after returning home from a local hospital following a medical event.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Saints legend Steve Gleason posted a message of gratitude from his hospital bed Saturday night (Sept. 14), calling members of his care team “heroes” for getting him to Ochsner for emergency treatment Wednesday during Hurricane Francine.

Gleason posted a picture to social media of himself and his family outside their home looking at a full moon. Gleason wrote that he felt "reborn" seeing it after being in the hospital. Gleason was diagnosed with ALS in 2011 and was taken to the hospital while suffering from low blood pressure and a fever.
