BOEM says that at its closest point, the Ocean Wind 1 project will be at least 13 nautical miles southeast of Atlantic City, with export cables planned to make landfall in Ocean and Cape May counties.

The decision to cease development of Ocean Wind 1 and Ocean Wind 2 is part of an ongoing review of Ørsted’s U.S. offshore wind portfolio with an update planned for its Q4 2023 results announcement.

OCEAN CITY — The Ocean Wind 1 project will not get the required state and federal permits for Christmas, but plans to have them lined up in the new year.

Ocean Wind 1, the project expected to bring 98 wind turbines 15 miles off the Atlantic City coast, is now expected to be commissioned in 2026, pending a pre-final investment decision.

Ocean Wind 1, one of at least two New Jersey projects Ørsted is helming, will include as many as 98 offshore wind turbines set to soar more than 850 feet as well as three onshore substations.

Ocean Wind 1 joins two other projects – Vineyard Wind in Massachusetts and South Fork Wind off the coasts of both Rhode Island and New York – in getting final approval from the federal government.
