ASBURY PARK, N.J. (WABC/CNN Newsource/WKRC) - A lifeguard at Asbury Park Beach was impaled by a beach umbrella in a freak accident on Wednesday morning, officials said. The incident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. when the lifeguard, in her second year on the job, fell from her perch while attempting to set a large chair umbrella in place.

A lifeguard was impaled by a windswept umbrella, while a swimmer had a puncture wound in his calf that was likely caused by a fish impalement.
