Gastrostomy Tube: Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube: A PEG tube is placed directly into the stomach. Larger amounts of feeds or bolus feeds can be given through this tube.
The most appropriate method for long-term enteral feeding is gastrostomy or, occasionally, jejunostomy. There are three ways to create a gastrostomy: surgically, radiologically or endoscopically.
Possible routes of nutrient administration include (1) gastric (nasogastric or gastrostomy) and (2) transpyloric (nasoduodenal, naso-jejunal, gastrojejunostomy or jejunostomy).
