Group B strep and having a baby: what pregnant women need to know Published: May 28, 2020 4:00pm EDT • Updated: June 4, 2020 9:05pm EDT Hannah Dahlen , Western Sydney University , Emad El-Omar ...
Black women, health care workers, and overweight women are at increased risk for carrying group B streptococcus (GBS) during pregnancy, new research suggests. IE 11 is not supported.
A new vaccine for group B strep given to pregnant women in a phase 2 trial was effective in transferring antibodies from the mothers to their newborns. The vaccine had few safety concerns.
The NHS does not routinely test for group B strep, though women can pay privately for a test (which costs around £40). It may be found during examinations for another reason, such as a vaginal swab.
