Lake-effect snow hit western Michigan on Wednesday, January 1, leading to slushy roads and poor visibility, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.Footage filmed and posted to TikTok by user @countryblueeye74 shows snowfall between Holland and Grand Haven in Ottawa County on New Year’s Day.

The winter weather advisory runs until 1 a.m. Saturday for southwest Lower Michigan. This again doesn’t mean the snow will end at that time. You could look for an extension of the advisory into Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service issued an updated report at 10:35 a.m. EST on Friday for lake effect snow until 3 p.m. EST for Cass, St. Joseph and Branch counties.

The snowfall is expected to especially hit west Michigan and northern Michigan. Metro Detroit could see less than a half inch of accumulation Friday.

Lake effect snow showers will start to ramp up Friday afternoon/evening, and periods of heavy lake effect snow will continue through Saturday.
