A growing memorial outside the Honduran Consulate Office in DeKalb County honors the sacrifice of Jesus Loera, a security guard who was shot and killed while protecting people from a gunman trying to enter the building.

A gunman tried to enter the consulate with a weapon, and then opened fire outside the entrance to the building, officials said.

An alleged gunman is facing charges in Georgia after police say his own parents turned him in. According to the Valdosta Police Department, police responded December 19 to a home on the 500 block of Samuel Street after a report of a shooting.
