Any hope for a last-minute deal that would've kept Scripps Health in-network for Anthem members fell through on New Year’s Day.

After months of negotiations to keep the health system in-network, the contract between Scripps Health and Anthem Blue Cross officially ended Jan. 1, it was announced Wednesday.

Many held out hope through the holidays that Scripps Health and Anthem Blue Cross would eventually agree on a new contract, or at least extend ongoing negotiations beyond New Year’s Day. But both sides, Scripps on Wednesday morning and Anthem on New Year’s Eve, said that no such deal has materialized.

Scripps Health is no longer in-network for Anthem Blue Cross policyholders after the two parties failed to agree on a contract by Jan. 1.

After months of failed negotiations, the health insurance coverage contract between Anthem Blue Cross and Scripps Health has ended and patients who utilize both may now need to make rearrangements to their care.

Scripps Health is no longer a part of the Anthem Blue Cross network with the exception of emergency care. This termination affects 125,000 San Diegans.
