A pilot rescued with two young family members after they survived a night on the wing of an airplane partially submerged in an Alaska lake is a student pilot who was not authorized to fly with passengers.

A missing pilot and his two daughters were successfully rescued Monday after crashing their plane into an iced-over glacial lake on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. The rescue was initiated by a group of local bush pilots who had volunteered to search in their own planes.
