We had a great time enjoying the beautiful views! The hike up is fairly easy and takes about +/- 30 minutes. Coming down is much quicker;) Full review by nelsong284

Located a 45 minute drive outside of Leon the volcano of cerro negro has become synonymous with volcano boarding - an activity where one slides down the gravelly/sandy side on a plank of wood. Desp… Full review by RowanH336

I saw plenty of people going up and down with their kids -- maybe ages six or eight. They sat on the boards with their parents going down. I'd 100% recommend you pay the few bucks to have the local carry the kids' boards up the mountain (and you're own if you're not to confident). The boards weigh a few pounds and are annoying to carry -- more so when the wind kicks up.
Solo needing a group tour! Hey, I’m so keen to do the volcano boarding but wondered if anyone knows of a group tour from Granada? I’m on my own and thought it will be no where near as fun (and a lot of tour companies don’t offer for solos) thanks in advance!

You like to do the tour starting from granada? Don’t you want to explore Leon anyway? Which is a cool city for young solo travelers btw.. from granada it’s quite easy to get to leon. Direct shuttle which is expensive or approx 1.5h public bus from granada to managua and then from the same terminal public minibus for about usd 2 for 2h to leon (minibus with ac). Leon has good hostels and activities.. othersise if you wish to do it from granada, ask around in big hostels.. maybe oasis hostel can give advice..? Usually they run the tour if they have enough participants who subscribe by themselves..?! Have fun
Hi:) My friend and I are travelling to Nicaragua, and we really want to try the sandboarding. However, I have never snowboarded before, and I get a little afraid of high speed. Will this tour be Ok for me ?

Yes, you can definitely control the board. I went down at a snails pace, everyone laughed at me lol
I saw a YouTube video of the non sledding hike and it looked like people were crawling up the volcano because it was so steep. Is that accurate? I am overweight and out of shape, but plan to conquer the hike.

They must have been going the wrong way. The hike is moderate, the guides take breaks every 15 minutes or so and tell you a little about the surrounding area so that people can catch their breath. It is windy up there and you do have to carry your board if you plan to do the sledding. There is an alternate walking route to get down if you were only interested in experiencing the top and taking pictures. It's well worth doing, I wish the tour allowed us to go up again and do it one more time.
