Great view of the city. Ride through the mountains to get there is great to see everything and all of the cabins. Love to sit and wait for the lights to come on in Gatlinburg. You can see the Ocber t…Full review by Debbykentucky

Amazing view of Gatlinburg. Parking is limited at this overlook, so try to get there in morning and preferably on a sunny clear day.Full review by gerri1217

The view from this overlook was totally spectacular and breathtaking! The government needs to do more to ensure they take care of it. For example one of the information signs needs to seriously be r…Full review by bigdaddy861
Google Maps says the Scenic Overlook is "permanently closed" - is this really the case? I am not sure if it's temporarily due to COVID or truly permanently closed. We are in the area and would like to visit but don't want to make a special trip there if it's closed. Thanks!
Any suggestions on nearby trails in Gatlinburg on the Appalachian that are fairly easy hikes( traveling with a child who loves to walk but does have some mobility issues) we will be there in two weeks Thanks in advance

Try the Little River Trail. See See hikinginthesmokys web site - littleriver. A Park Ranger lead us on the trail. We booked it at the main park headquarters near Gatlinburg. The ranger info was fascinating as we learned a lot about the park. The path is very wide (an old road) and it's an easy walk. It parallels a gorgeous stream. Good luck.
We will be in the area mid September. Both are senior citizens. We are not very active. Casual walks are our thing. I would like to know if the walking trails are marked if they are rocky and steep. Thanks for the help.

The scenic overlook on the bypass is not difficult at all...beautiful view of the mountains and looks down on Gatlinburg. The park maps will tell you the difficulty of each trail; most are at least moderate, but maybe okay if you just take it slow. My husband and I walked to Grotto Falls a couple of years ago...we are 84 and 62. There are also "Quiet Walkways" marked and they are easy. There are many beautiful pull outs in the park which require no walking at all.
We are planning to be in Gatlinburg the middle of September. Both are senior citizens and not very active. Are the different trails easy for non athletic, but not handicapped seniors. Are they marked? Thanks for the help.

I like the Little River trail which starts at Elkmont campground. This an old road which leads through the abandoned cabins of a former summer encampment and then follows a rushing creek. You can walk as far as you wish, up to several miles, or as little as a few hundred yards and have something interesting to see. The nature trail at sugarlands is a good choice as is the Mingus Mill walk. The walk around the Oconoluftee pioneer farm at the Oconoluftee Visitors Center is a good choice.
