The drive is pleasant and the beach front is huge. Was surprised that there was no charge when going thru the entrance. Must have been a lucky day for all the beach goers. There are many lots to park… Full review by dyl008

The whole shore is beautiful. Atop the Fire Island Lighthouse, you can see it all! I went to Kismet beach in August of 2022. It is stunning! The shore is vast and the water is very shallow with littl… Full review by Jack S

Hello Michele, if you want to go to the Fire Island Lighthouse you can either drive to Robert Moses State Park go to field #5 you can not miss it. You would have to get there early if you drive, parking lot fills up fast. If you take the ferry out of Bay Shore to Kismet if you want to see the lighthouse then walk over about 15 minute walk, the beach is right there , you can bring your back packs on Ferry. There are restaurant's in Kismet, and other communities. You could walk down to Ocean Beach and take ferry back from there also and in the other communities. Ocean beach is the biggest community with a lot of restaurants. No driving on Fire Island. There's a lot to see and enjoy while there.
How do you get from one end of the island to another?

Boat. On the west end is Democrat Point to the new inlet formed by Sandy. It is quite the walk and you need to pay in the state parking fields at Robert Moses. The walk goes almost to Smiths Point. I don't think you should walk across but not sure. The next walk is from the new inlet to the Center Moriches Inlet. You can't walk across. Then from CM Inlet to Shinicock (sp) Inlet, again you need a boat. After that Dune Rd in the Hamptons with a few small breaks. But mostly what Marie wrote, I like Kismet too. The other towns have charms but be up for everything, I mean everything. I tried to ride my bike but between towns the sand was too soft to ride, it was very hot so I went to the water, swam awhile and went back to field 5. LOL, have fun, stay off the dunes, ticks and poison ivy, some naked people too!
